CESKIE ("chess-key") is a British/Dutch Berklee College of Music trained DJ, Producer, Violinist & Songwriter. She is the Editor-in-Chief of Berklee Groove, Berklee's student newspaper, working as an interviewer, radio show host and DJ.
Through her position as Editor-in-Chief of Berklee Groove, Ceskie has interviewed and watched many leading DJs, such as Sam Feldt, Lucas & Steve, KSHMR, Kygo, Loud Luxury, Armada CEO Maykel Piron, Oliver Heldens and Snakehips - over the past year. She is mentored by Jason Dawson (DJ JD) and Brian 'Raydar' Ellis.
She is also host and producer for Berklee Groove's weekly podcast, 'Get In The Groove': featured guests include JoJo and Bryce Vine.
She DJ'd the Berklee College of Music 2020 graduation after party, streamed live in May.
Ceskie is the creative force behind Berklee Groove, Berklee College of Music's student publication, connecting students and alumni to inspire them to #getinthegroove and share their journey to success.
Francesca ‘Ceskie’ Rijks took over as the Editor-in-Chief of Berklee Groove, in May 2019. Since then she has headed the relaunch of the publication, reshaping the image, brand and impact of Berklee Groove, creating a platform through which Berklee students and alumni share music releases, shows, opinions and stories.
Ceskie rebuilt Berkleegroove.com in collaboration with developers at Wix, redesigned the logo, established a partnership with Down Under School of Yoga, and received the support of Berklee President Roger Brown. Together with her talented team of newly hired student writers, assistant editor and social media manager, Berklee Groove publishes daily content aimed at inspiring and informing the current Berklee network.
During the last 6 months she has chatted with JoJo, Julia Michaels, Emily King, KSHMR, Alice Merton, Bryce Vine, Sam Feldt, Jónsi & Alex, Donovan Woods, Easy Life, Loud Luxury, i_o, Taking Back Sunday and Mary Lambert, to name a few. Her show reviews include Oliver Heldens, Snakehips, Cigarettes After Sex, KT Tunstall, Kim Petras, Tegan & Sara, Goldroom and Hozier.
She's written 50 published articles, and edited over 100.
In 2019 she reviewed and interviewed at multiple festivals - such as Mysteryland Festival, Gampel Festival, Wanderlust and Boston Calling. She has interviewed Berklee Alumni and students at all stages of their careers, in order to bring their advice to aspiring music industry professionals currently at Berklee.
She is currently working on a collaboration with the BIRN (Berklee Internet Radio Network), to launch a weekly radio show in Spring 2020. At the suggestion of Roger Brown, she is working to establish a partnership with the Barnes & Nobel - run Berklee Bookstore, to sell the redesigned Berklee Groove merchandise. She is also working with other Berklee clubs, internal organisations, and the campus-based street team to establish the #getinthegroove hashtag as an Instagram campaign, to encourage the Berklee network to share the daily hustle behind their success.
With Berklee scholarships for Performance, Composition/Writing, Outstanding Achievement, she is sponsored by MBNA for Professional Music to attend Berklee. She was classically trained in Violin and composition from age 12 - 18 at Chetham's School of Music, Manchester, UK.
During her time at Berklee, Ceskie has played in over 200 film scoring sessions as an in-demand session musician. She has been featured in music covers, live shows and recording sessions as arranger and performer for string sections - published on the official Berklee YouTube channel as well as independent artists, such as Julia Gartha.
She has performed in string quartets and with full orchestra at venues such as London's Royal Festival Hall, Cadogan Hall, Bridgewater Hall. Notable performances include Jacob Collier's 2018 album release show at MIT, Patrice Rushen, Thomas Newman, and a private function for Prince William.
Prior to attending Berklee, Ceskie trained in classical composition and has arranged for full orchestra, film score and big band. The short film 'Stadt in de mis' for which she scored, won the Goethe Film Award at the Zebra International Poetry-Film Festival. She has directed multiple shows as conductor and producer.
